Hi folks, My Mom took me to visit Maureen and I brought along my first dog that I was having behavior problems with. I was sooooooo green. I had no idea what to do with a dog to get it to behave. Brutus was a 2 year old red miniature pinscher, and a holy terror. Oh, he was smart, and he was controlling my life. He marked everywhere, wouldn't walk on a leash, did whatever he wanted, and was the Houdini of min-pins. He chewed through ropes, broke clothesline leads, and could move like greased lightening through the neighborhood, always with me on the run behind him, yelling for him to stop (Yeah right!).
Maureen grinned and told me to have a seat in the lawn chair while she demonstrated some tips with Brutus that would make my life much easier. For the first time in my life, I was introduced to "Alpha" behavior techniques. In less than 5 minutes, my monster dog was walking on a leash, heeling, sitting, and generally just looking like he had done this his entire life!
It wasn't long before I "rescued" another min-pin. Maureen had mentioned that in the past, she had bred min-pins for a time and really helped with advice on their personality and temperaments. I moved back to Ontario, and we stayed in touch.
In 1998, I began to putter around and learn to code basic html for websites. Then I returned to business college for more knowledge. For me, websites were another outlet for creative ideas I'd done all my life. Then Maureen asked me to do Station One a website, and the saga began.
Maureen and I both oppose the breed specific legislation against various breeds. I'm sure that everyone is aware of it and I promise not to get on a rant about it here! For more information, check here.
Signing off for now, The photos above are: **Rhona has been involved in rescue for 15+ years. She now has her own minpin litter as of April 21/08. Happy Birthday Rhona! to see Rhona's minpins, they have their own website at http://courtjesterminpins.freehostia.com and they are adoptable darlin's. They are sold on a non-breeding contract. I thought it was time that people meet the face behind the scenes of Station One Reg'd Kennels! It has definitely been a labor of love for the dogs (oops, and you too Maureen!), and enriched my life.
Well, I got out of the car, and my Mom introduced us. We talked for a bit, and I told Maureen about the dog. She told me to go get him, and probably almost split a gut laughing inside…when I took Brutus out of the car with 20 feet of chain link hooked to him. He was all of 13 inches high and weighed about 11 lbs. Believe me I was taking no chances of this dog escaping!
After picking my jaw off the ground, I spent the afternoon with her at Station One and picked her brains. So began my love affair with the dogs of Station One Reg'd Kennels, the start of a wonderful friendship, and a learning experience that just doesn't quit.
To those of you who have followed and contributed to the evolution of Station One from a small obscure website, to one we are truly proud of, I thank you…our clients, our friends, family, supporters and most of all, to the wonderful, phenomenal dogs of Station One. (pssssttttt…Ok everyone, this is where you all get online and send me photos of all those wonderful dogs and cats you've taken home from Station One!And I WILL post them!)
I continue to rescue min-pins (and other creatures as you can see from the photos) to this day. I have done transports, and foster care here and there. As with a lot of rescues, these little dogs I've adopted often have issues. I have been so blessed to have behavior training and support from Maureen, teaching me all the ins and outs of getting my dogs to acknowledge me as "ALPHA", advising me on canine health issues, and being my rock when one of my dogs passed on. Maureen continues to offer behavioral and health advice to all her clients, and as a consultant to others in need of her services.
For those who want a webpage done, or a full site, I offer my services, at very reasonable rates, and will work with you to give you a site you are proud of. Email me, or visit my website at RS Designs Canada. For Station One reference: Click here. For Armoso references, Email here.

1. Myself and Charlie, our adoptee. Stag red minpin.
2. My husband Jerry and myself
3. Louby, our beautiful black & tan girl, died of cancer on Sept 25/07
4. Baby doves rescued from cats June/07
5. 18 day old raccoons, we took these to Windrush Rehabilitation Wildlife, Burford, ON
6. And this 6 ft monitor lizard was the strangest rescue I ever did! Named Max, we called him Maximus Eatemus!
Most of my dogs are rescued from the Internet Miniature Pinscher Service. All have stories. Louby was an owner giveup as the family had children that kept dropping her, and she started to bite them. Buddy was abused and had his skull cracked and tail broke. It has taken us 4 years to finally have him trust us, and become a loving dog. Charlie was an owner giveup. He was hit by a van when he was a puppy, required major surgery but is doing great. He is in his adjustment period with us, and learning that contrary to what he thinks, he is NOT Alpha in this house. These are but a few of the babies we've helped and loved.
